Verenice is an Graphic Designer and Art Director from Los Angeles with a passion for technology and storytelling. She also never talks about herself in the third person. It’s a little weird…

Recently I had the opportunity to work with great people of Full Hearts, an agency that specializes in fundraising for non-profit organizations such as Operation Smile, Mercy Ships and IJM. As an Art Director I spearheaded print, email and social media campaigns to raise millions of dollars that helped people in other countries live better lives.

During my 2+ years working for the City of LA, specifically for the Planning Department, I’ve had the pleasure of working on the Planning4la.org website
re-design, which was an Adobe Gov Creativity Award finalist(oooh), to various everyday assets such as social media graphics, various campaigns, graphics for other departments, graphs, and other print projects.

In 2019, the Advertising Art Direction class of CSULA, partnered with the Columbia Space Center to rebrand and celebrate their legacy.

See how we refreshed the branding to reflect their cool persona.

This was a fun, quick 1 hr challenge I set for myself to practice more of my UX skills. I turned one of my favorite website, Genius, into a mobile app since they didn’t have one. Below is the result. I hope to expand upon it, so take this as a starting point.

EXPERIMENTAL

  • It all began with looking at the desktop version of the site. I also took note of the main reason people went on the site, which was lyrics of the favorite songs, and decided that was going to be the home page of the mobile version.

  • The next thing I noticed, was that Genius was also a place for not only lyrics, but also the latest music news. I also liked how the lyrics section blended through to the news and wanted to recreate the same feeling.

  • Wanting to highlight the latest music news, I searched up what was trending and it happened to be ASAP Rocky on the cover of GQ.

  • This is the first page of the app. I wanted to highlight the same feeling of the site by incorporating yellow. This allowed me to make it feel like the site, but with more freshness and cool.

  • So the home page immediately lets you search up songs and just below it, allows you to look at the songs trending right now. Scrolling below, you can read the news. The intention was to have a yellow to black gradient as you scrolled down.

  • And this is the final product as it would look like in your phone. It is what came out in those 60 minutes and hope to improve on it.
